Aims and Fit of Module

Asset Management and Wealth Succession is one of the key concerns with regard to Enterprise Governance and (family) succession. This module introduces students to key areas associated with asset management, providing a strategic overview of family asset management and wealth succession; exploring and presenting areas such as investment analysis, insurance planning and legal/tax issues, whilst also exploring family philanthropy. Students will also explore the characteristics, uses, and taxes of various investment vehicles and various investment strategies. Students will also analyse how the key trends (including the intersection of technology and wealth management) are shaping the future of wealth management.

Learning outcomes

A Demonstrate critical understanding of asset management and wealth succession. B Critically assess and apply a variety of approaches to wealth planning within the family succession context C Critically evaluate contemporary methods in asset management, and be able to proactively assess responses to emerging trends.

Method of teaching and learning

Based on the philosophy of Syntegrative Education, this module’s delivery pattern follows more intensive block teaching, and allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This delivery pattern provides space for students to concentrate on completing the problem-based and project-oriented assessments. This module will be delivered through a series of key lectures/seminars. In addition, students will be required to analyse a number of cases, determining what worked and why.
