Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to equip the students with the requisite knowledge and skills in utilizing contemporary intelligent technology to address the demands of an ageing society. This module introduces the concept of "smart aging", a strategy aimed at improving the quality of life and service for elders including 1) elderly care system management, 2) assistant or rehabilitation devices, and 3) elderly-friendly design. It fits for the students who are committed to comprehending and applying the philosophy of “smart ageing” in the context of organizational management, financial operations, social technology, and digital governance within senior adult populations.

Learning outcomes

A Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the smart technologies within elderly health service system for senior adults’ healthcare service, financial needs, and management.
B Critically evaluate how to integrate smart devices into rehabilitation of senior adults or improvement of the daily life.
C Analyze the scenarios of elderly-friendly design and social technology.

Method of teaching and learning

Based on the philosophy of Syntegrative Education, the teaching sessions are interactive. This module is delivered through a combination of lectures and tutorials over a period of six weeks. In lectures, students are introduced to the fundamental concepts, primary methodology, cutting-edge intelligent technologies, and pertinent issues in the domain of smart ageing. Seminars serve as a platform for addressing individual student queries and concerns, as well as engaging in discussions centered on real-world applications of smart ageing in elderly healthcare systems, smart devices, and elderly-friendly design.
This delivery pattern provides space for students to concentrate on completing the problem-based and project-oriented assessments.
