Module Title Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP)
Module Level Level 2
Module Credits 2.50
Academic Year 2021/22
Semester SEM1

Aims and Fit of Module

Aims of this module are that ERP is usually referred to as a category of business-management software — typically a suite of integrated applications—that an organization can use to collect, store, manage, and interpret data from these many business activities. The aim of the module is to provide students an integrated and continuously updated view of core business processes using common databases maintained by a database management system. The module enables student to: (i) track business resources—cash, raw materials, production capacity—and the status of business commitments: orders, purchase orders, and payroll through ERP; (ii) understand that ERP facilitates information flow between all business functions and manages connections to outside stakeholders; (iii) share data across various departments (manufacturing, purchasing, sales, accounting, etc.) more transparently and efficiently

Learning outcomes

A. improve quality and efficiency of the business
B. support upper level management by providing information for decision making
C. create a more agile company that adapts better to change.
D. provide a collaborative platform that lets employees spend more time collaborating on content rather than mastering the learning curve of communicating in various formats across distributed systems

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments. A combination of formal lectures, seminars as well as tutorials will be leveraged to enable the appreciation of technical aspects of ERP and the ability to use the relevant numerical tools and analysis methods.
