Module Level Level 4
Module Credits 5.00
Academic Year 2023/24
Semester SEM2

Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to introduce to students theories related to business strategy, with a focus on international companies, by applying them to practical cases. It also introduces students to global trends, concepts, theoretical frameworks and guiding principles relevant to corporate sustainability. In addition, it examines the links between corporate activities, globalisation and sustainability. It is also concerned with the higher, strategic level of management decision making. Business Strategy requires the analysis of complex, uncertain and incomplete information and the ability to bound this ambiguity and make, and implement, firm wide judgement.

Learning outcomes

A Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the basic tools and techniques used in the analysis of company performance and strategic positioning B Demonstrate a critical awareness of theories, concepts, models and frameworks related to international business strategies C Identify and analyse the problems and challenges of developing and implementing (international) business strategy D Show understanding of how to manage innovation and fostering corporate entrepreneurship E Explain the concept of 'corporate sustainability' and present a credible case for incorporating environmental, social and ethical considerations into strategic business planning

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are interactive and divided into two components: lectures and seminars. This module, through a combination of lectures, class discussions and case study presentations provides the opportunity for students to develop and practice analysis, thinking and judgment competencies at an international and strategic level. Students will also be involved in a Business Strategy game
