The aim of the module is to provide students with a broad introduction to Russian politics, economy, foreign and energy policy issues. The interdisciplinary approach enables students to study and evaluate the main aspects of the development of the Russian society after 1991. Taking the Russian experience as a starting point, the module will help students develop their critical thinking skills, which they can apply in their future studies of other regions and countries.
A Demonstrate critical knowledge of contemporary Russian politics, political economy, finance, social issues, and foreign policy. B Demonstrate a broadly applicable theoretical foundation for analysing politics, economy, finance, social issues and foreign policy. C Apply theoretical frameworks to analyse contemporary Russian politics, economy, social issues, and foreign policy. D Produce academic writing on contemporary Russian politics, political economy, social issues, and foreign policy. E Develop oral presentation and collaborative teamwork skills.
Lectures and seminars. Students will submit mid-term writing group assignments (25%) based on a selection of limited topics designed by the instructor. Particular attention will be paid to theoretical and methodological issues. Students will choose the topic of the final essay (75%) with the instructor’s approval.
