Academic Year 2024/25
Semester SEM1

Aims and Fit of Module

To provide insights into the basic elements about digital image and video processing. The first art of this module is focused on the fundamentals of visual signal representation and processing. The second part will introduce the fundamentals of data, image, and video processing technologies.

Learning outcomes

A. Analyze the basic principles of digital image and video processing.
B. Analyze the techniques used in digital image and video processing, including image enhancement, image transformation, image compression and video coding, etc.
C. Evaluate of the effect of image and video processing.
D. Apply relevant image and video processing techniques to a given problem.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures and lab sessions. The lab experiments will be carried on using the MATLAB language and other software tools for image and video coding. For each lab, a brief report shall be prepared, which will be evaluated and will concur to determine the final grade.
The examination will consist in a written exam with a few questions to be answered.
The grade will be determined from the written exam and the evaluation of the reports of the computer labs.
