Aims and Fit of Module

The main aims of the module are to: • Apply some of the main research, theorizing and practice involved in the evaluation and design of curricula for English language education • Engage in some of the main levels of activity involved in curriculum design, e.g., needs analysis, situation analysis, course design, material design, syllabus design and materials evaluation and adaptation • Master relevant academic concepts for each of these areas studied • Raise awareness of factors that are crucial to effective teaching and research • Apprentice the students in to the community of rigorous academic writing and speaking practice.

Learning outcomes

A Competently apply the main research, theory and practice involved in the EFL/ESL pedagogy B Engage in the main levels of activity involved in curriculum design,e.g., needs analysis, situation analysis, course design, material design, syllabus design and materials evaluation and adaptation C Demonstrate mastery of relevant academic concepts for these areas; D Demonstrate awareness of the key factors that are crucial to effective teaching; E Communicate research via rigorous academic writing practice; F Communicate research effectively in oral formats, via e.g. presentation or viva.
