This module covers fundamental concepts that are used in engineering discipline, including forces, moments, structural analyses of frames, devices, and machines. It aims to introduce basic principles of statics and to illustrate the application of these principles to solve rigid body mechanics problems .
A Understand and apply the derivation of mathematical models for static analysis of rigid body mechanical systems. B Analyze beam cross sections to determine the centroid, moments of inertia. C Understand and apply equilibrium conditions to solve various statics problems. D Determine internal shear force and bending moment for various beams.
This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures, tutorials and supervised practical sessions.
