Module Title Electromagnetism II
Module Level Level 2
Module Credits 5
Academic Year 2027/28
Semester SEM2

Aims and Fit of Module

This module advances understanding of electromagnetic waves, waveguides, and relativistic electromagnetism. Students will analyze boundary conditions, radiation, and covariant formulations in special relativity, to further develop their problem-solving and analytic skills.

Learning outcomes

A. Solve the wave equations for electromagnetic fields in free space and in material media. B. Analyze wave propagation and behavior at boundaries, in cavities, waveguides, and transmission lines. C. Analyze properties of electric dipole radiation. D. Apply the covariant formulation of electrodynamics to solve problems E. Use analytical and numerical methods to solve classical electrodynamics problems.

Method of teaching and learning

Lectures: Core theory delivery. Tutorials: Problem-solving workshops with feedback. Private Study: Guided problem sets and self-directed learning.
