This module aims to introduce students to a broad range of management issues and experiences faced by managers in modern organisations. It relies strongly on a case study approach to learning to equip students with the knowledge and skills that they can apply to fluid and often, ambiguous, work environments.
Students completing the module successfully should:
A Understand the historical and current approaches to management and its role as a science.
B Understand and be able to apply various management theories to analyse and solve managerial problems.
C Understand the various tasks and competencies used in management practice
D Show skills in analyzing the practices of management in differing situations
E Have a good understanding of the practices and differences between planning, leading, organising and controlling as managerial tasks.
F Appreciate the contingency approach to management.
Method of teaching and learning will be by lecture and weekly tutorials.
