The aim of this module is to provide students with a solid understanding of the development and trends of the international economy, and overview of global economy and Corporate responses. Through company examples and group reports students explore the diverse environments that firms face globally, as well as the internationalised markets for commodities, products, services, labour, energy and information.

The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments. The key themes in the module are introduced in lectures, and followed up in seminars and tutorials. Students are expected to undertake follow-up and background reading and to carry out independent research that evaluates in-depth one major issue in the management of the global economy. The module also introduces students to case study analysis, prescribed reading, and research informed teaching.
