This module aims to characterize, from a qualitative and quantitative standpoint, all the processes and factors affecting a drug in order to optimize its bioavailability. It will provide students with the basic biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics principles and concepts, facilitate understanding of the interaction between the dosage form and the biological substrate and evaluating of drug and metabolite kinetics through analysis of concentration/time curves in biological fluids.
A Demonstrate an understanding of the process about the drug’s absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) pattern. B Demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationship of the physicochemical properties of a drug in dosage form and the pharmacology, toxicology and clinical response after administration. C Demonstrate an understanding of the time relation of drug action both mathematically and descriptively. D Apply pharmacokinetic models to predict the evolution of the drug in the body and to establish appropriate dosing regimens.
This course will be taught by a series of lectures. Students will learn how to apply their knowledge by completing a series of related tutorials.
