Introduction to Architecture and Visual Culture aims to awaken the students’ creative abilities, develop latent aptitudes and encourage their passion for architecture, through concentrating on three particular aspects:
Understanding to see: To introduce a new way of seeing and understanding creative activities through analogous experimentation based on modern and contemporary artists’ research;
Understanding to do: To introduce and explore spatial relationships through various media;
Understanding to communicate: To understand architecture not only about space and building but also about something that happens in it.
A Identify the cultural base of various artistic disciplines related to architecture.
B Demonstrate a comprehension of the connections and transitions between various forms of visual media and representation related to architecture.
C Assess and evaluate various forms of visual communication.
The module will be delivered in On-Line mode. The module will be based on three types of activities: lecture, workshop, and tutorial. Students train their skills, improve their competencies through practice during private studies, and conduct their studies and research. Students will get feedback through a critical review of selected coursework. Students will be given short exercises to solve progressively throughout the semester. The final module assessment will combine these smaller components, reconfigured to produce a coherent whole. Some sessions of this module will be taught by tutors from the Language Centre to assist students with the language/study skills requirements for the module. Students will also be provided with On-Line language/study skills support to help them engage with the module content.
