This module provides students with an opportunity to conduct in-depth, independent research on a defined topic under the supervision of a qualified member of academic staff. Full-time students typically conduct their research activities within the research labs of the university. Part-time students are usually supervised by a member of XJTLU academic staff (as the primary supervisor) and a designated industrial supervisor (as a co-supervisor). They must carefully prepare their research plans under the guidance of both supervisors, submit at the time of application, and obtain approval by the Programme Director before they formally enroll into the Master’s programme.
A. Execute a research project, demonstrating a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current problems or new insights at the forefront of the academic discipline. B. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of scientific literature and techniques relevant to the research project, integrate this knowledge with the project’s arguments and justifications, and demonstrating originality in the application of knowledge. C. Exhibit self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems, acting autonomously in planning and implementing tasks. D. Write a final project report in dissertation or manuscript format, critically evaluating, contrasting, and discussing the experimental outcomes of the research project and their scientific implications and significance. E. Develop and deliver a clear, concise, and well-structured oral presentation of a research project and its findings, demonstrating effective communication skills, practical understanding of research techniques, and the ability to engage and inform an academic audience.
Weekly group meetings will be arranged by the academic supervisor, allowing students to present their progress and discuss issues related to project implementation. Additional technical training, such as Linux system operation, bioinformatics tool usage, and database installation, will be provided by supervisors, technicians, or experienced PhD students as needed.
