This module provides students with an opportunity to conduct in-depth, independent research on a defined topic in molecular bioscience under the supervision of an academic staff. Full time students typically conduct their research activities within the research labs of the university. Part time students conduct their research as agreed with their employers, and will be co-supervised by a member of XJTLU academic staff and a designated industrial supervisor.
A. Plan a piece of scientific research to formulate, evaluate or criticize a hypothesis and challenge or defend this hypothesis. B. Demonstrate a critical awareness and understanding of the relevant scientific literature and relate and combine it with the arguments, criteria, justifications, applicability to solve research problems and/or discussions of the project. C. Understand, consider and apply research ethics and health and safety regulations to prioritize, arrange and organize research work. D. Maintain an accurate and comprehensive record of methods and experimental findings. E. Write a dissertation to evaluate, contrast and discuss, the experimental outcomes of the research project and their scientific implications and significance in the area of molecular bioscience. F. Present their work to a scientific audience in the form of an oral presentation.
This module involves tutorials to help students on literature review, presentation, report writing, lab safety, and project planning. Specific technical training will be given by supervisor and technical supporting staffs. Students have to participate in a specified research project and to complete a dissertation.
