Method of teaching and learning

The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which may include more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem- based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments. The teaching sessions are divided into two components (lectures and tutorials). Lectures (delivered by AFCT staff): These sessions will explore game design case studies across a range of media platforms, introducing students to key concepts, design principles, and contemporary practices within the games industry. Tutorials (delivered by LIFE staff): These sessions will focus on project management and team collaboration, supporting students in planning, organising, and working effectively in teams to develop and deliver project-based work.
