This module introduces students to the planning and curation of a cultural event, aiming to develop Year 1 students’ interest in this regard. The highly interdisciplinary course addresses the systems, tools and checklists necessary for successful project planning in close cooperation with the industry as per the Syntegrative Education practices in XJTLU 2.0 Model at Taicang Campus.
A. Outline the process of project design and planning within the context of a given event brief. B. Present a project that incorporates the key elements of project design and planning (including: audience, goals, mission, funding, promotion, and impact.) C. Interpret information to form a project plan.
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments. The teaching sessions are divided into three components (Lectures, seminars and practicals). Specifically: Lectures will focus on case studies of various sectors of cultural industry; Seminars will focus on the discussion, generation and articulation of ideas and their potential implementation; And practical sessions focus on exploration of cultural events in the real world. Moreover, students will apply classroom learning to solve real-world problems through Project-based Learning (PBL), Object-based Learning (OBL), Research-led Learning and Self-directed Learning in a fun, immersive and interactive way. There will be interactive sessions to spark creativity and problem-solving skills, collaborative exercise to foster teamwork and entrepreneurship.
