Aims and Fit of Module

This module is an introduction to Installation Art. It offers students practical, theoretical and critical subsidies that will enable them to understand art in tridimensional spaces as it relates to the human experience. The module will enable students to work with different mediums to experience, recognise and experiment with the creation and realisation process of Installation Art and its relationships with different mediums and artistic languages.

Learning outcomes

A. Recognise the conceptual components of installation art. B. Create installation artworks that propose sensorial experiences. C. Execute installation artworks that propose sensorial experiences. D. Critique the field of Installation Art by elaborating critical discourses on production

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are divided into four components (Lectures, Seminars, Tutorials and Studio):
Lectures will focus on the introduction of conceptual components of contemporary art, form, time, and space, fundamental to the understanding of installation art.
The Seminars will allow students to present the development of their projects while debating and elaborating their discourses on their own practice.
Tutorials will provide students with focused support on their learning journey.
And the Studio will be hands-on experimentation sessions which will allow students to develop their own artistic language and test their ideas under supervision.
In that this is an optional module, to well utilise the university resource, the module delivery is subject to meeting a minimum number of students (10).
