This module introduces students to the creative and technical foundations of interactive art and performance through frameworks of Human-Computer Interaction. It aims to teach students how to design responsive systems using sensors, microcontrollers, and real-time media software, with a focus on embodied interaction and interactive environments.
A Identify the fundamental principles of Human-Computer Interaction including sensors, microcontrollers, and real-time media systems. B Build interactive systems using Arduino, TouchDesigner, and related tools. C Demonstrate creative decision-making through prototyping, experimentation, and iteration.
Teaching combines Lectures, Workshops, Studio Sessions, and Tutorials. • Lectures introduce core HCI concepts, sensing, and real-time interaction. • Workshops provide guided exercises in Arduino, TouchDesigner, and input/output workflows. • Studio Sessions support hands-on experimentation and iterative prototyping. • Tutorials offer individualized guidance to refine projects and troubleshoot. In that this is an optional module, to well utilise the university resource, the module delivery is subject to meeting a minimum number of students (10).
