Aims and Fit of Module

This module will engage students in the study and practice of sound design and creative audio practices for an arts technology project. Students will examine the critical, theoretical and practical contexts of audio recording, sound design and their relation and integration in arts technology practices. The module will cover both contextual knowledge and understanding as well as practical workshops in audio recording, post-production and landscape design within the production of practical project work. In that this is an optional module, to well utilise the university resource, the module delivery is subject to meeting a minimum number of students (10).

Learning outcomes

A. Critically analyse examples of sound design practices through drawing on critical and theoretical texts and practical examples. B. Demonstrate understanding of the conventions and practical techniques of audio sound recording for arts technology production. C. Demonstrate understanding of principles and practices of working with hardware and software in the production of sound design and audio landscapes. D. Undertake a sound design within an arts technology practical project

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are divided into two components (Lectures and practical sessions). A series of lectures will equip the students with the knowledge and understanding of the art of sound dubbing and the creation of audio landscapes. Practical sessions will focus on the creation of an audio landscape for an arts technology project. In that this is an optional module, to well utilise the university resource, the module delivery is subject to meeting a minimum number of students (10).
