Aims and Fit of Module

This module is designed to develop a sound understanding and appreciation of the development of the cities, and provinces within China, and the future directions of the regions. An understanding of the reasons for change from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing/service economy will also be discussed

Learning outcomes

A. Show appreciation of the importance of the geographical perspective on China’s development.
B. Explain the connections among environment, demography, policies, and China’s development.
C. Show familiarity with China’s administrative geographies and the Chinese city system.
D. Show understanding of the development of selected cities and regions within China.
E. Demonstrate skills in writing and presenting academic work on regional development in China.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be taught in a lecture and semester mode.
