The aim of this module is to provide students with broad understanding of the nature and determinants of the pattern of international trade, capital flows, and the inter-relations between the two. These topics will be studied with specific focus on the China economy and its major trading partners.
A Understand why countries trade with one another and what determines trade.
B Gain knowledge on China trade relations with major partners and the issues involved in it.
C Understand the importance exchange rate mechanism in China’s trade.
D Have knowledge of role of foreign direct investment (FDI) on China’s trade growth.
E The role of national and international institutions in regulating trade and the consequences of trade for a variety of issues including employment.
This module will be delivered via a combination of lectures and seminars. Lectures will be designed to provide essential information and introduce students to the basic tools of analysis. Seminars will be delivered to supplement the lectures and to discuss selected topics in detail.
