This is a core compulsory module in the MA in China Studies. It provides an introduction to government and politics in the People’s Republic of China for master’s students who have not previously studied the topic.
A Describe and summarize the structures of governance in the PRC and how they operate
B Apply a body of social sciences theory to critically evaluate the configurations of political power in the PRC
C Identify and evaluate key literature on politics, government, public policy, political economy and international relations in and of the PRC
D Synthetize and appraise the PRC policy process
E Analyze and evaluate the impact of political changes in major policy areas
In the seminars students will able to have an in-depth discussion of weekly topics, and also to present their analysis of a specific topic from the syllabus. The essay plan and the essay will hone students’ analytical and writing abilities.
