The aim of the module to introduce the principles and concepts related to the analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
A. Recognize the principles of limit state, importance of materials behavior and contribution, performance of various forms of structural members, combination of actions, path and forms of the structural loading as well as health and safety issues related to the design.
B. Interpret rules from Eurocodes into reinforced concrete and steelwork design and evaluate the limiting values for any section chosen.
C. Apply engineering knowledge in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
D. Produce initial design decisions, sizing and selection of elemental structural members.
E. Analyse experimental results and determine their validity and accuracy.
F. Develop experience and key skills in data manipulation, presentation of analysis and design methodologies, report writing and self-learning.
The module is delivered through formal lectures, tutorials and practical sessions.
