The aims of this module are to introduce reinforced concrete materials and the analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures using Eurocodes, and to perform a reinforced concrete design project with teamwork and industrial awareness.
A. Recognise the principles of limit state, importance of materials behaviour and contribution, performance of various forms of structural members, combination of actions, path and forms of the structural loading as well as health and safety issues related to the design. B. Interpret rules from Eurocodes into reinforced concrete design and evaluate the limiting values for any section chosen. C. Apply engineering knowledge in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures. D. Produce initial design decisions, sizing and selection of elemental structural members. E. Appreciate reinforced concrete element within an integrated context, practical problems and methods associated with Civil Engineering design. F. Analyse experimental results and determine their validity and accuracy. G. Develop experience and key skills in data manipulation, presentation of analysis and design methodologies, report writing and self-learning.
The module is delivered through formal lectures, tutorials and practical sessions.
