Aims and Fit of Module

This module introduces students to critical frameworks and concepts in cultural studies and media studies, emphasising on the relationships between systems of representation, discourse, and power within media, culture, and society. Through engaging in critical analysis of various forms of media, students will explore how media representation shape perceptions of diversity and identities within contemporary society. The module will also encourage students to discuss the ways in which media representations perpetuate stereotypes, reinforce dominant ideologies, and marginalise underrepresented groups. This module will help students develop the necessary skills and knowledge to participate in critical discussions about media representation, diversity, and identity.
