As an optional choice in Year 1, Semester 1, the module aims to provide knowledge and skills that contribute to the university graduate attribute framework in any curriculum, and predominantly those involving any type and scale of design in its broadest sense. In particular, it provides students with skills for the recognition, understanding and application of principles that underpin the creation of a design artifact. Students will learn how to manage two- and three-dimensional compositions of forms, geometries, and materials, and will acquire analytical skills that will support them in the continuation of their studies.
A. Identify different types of forms, materials and their interaction B. Summarise and discuss design attributes as a critical analysis methodology C. Apply design methodologies to the solution of complex problems D. Recognise the significance of a collaborative approach to design
The module is taught in weekly sessions articulated in a lecture and a seminar. The former provides the theoretical framework, while the latter elicits active learning through workshops, and group activities. Seminars will also support students in the development of their coursework.
