This module provides students with the opportunity to explore in depth a valid topic in the field of the whole programme leading to the MSc Artificial Intelligence degree, to facilitate students in developing independent research and presenting skills in scientific project that could be essential for their career. The MSc dissertation project aims to cultivate and improve the students' ability to research in practical application problems related to AI, and cultivate the graduate students' ability to independently engage in scientific research, technical work or management work related to AI.
A Demonstrate a critical understanding of all aspects of working as a computer scientist in the planning, design and execution of academic or technical activities to solve specific problems in research-based Artificial Intelligence projects. B Master necessary abilities to define a substantial problem, gather and evaluate relevant scientific information and literature, and propose new techniques associated with the project. C Expertly apply existing knowledge and expertise to conduct meaningful research within the specific domain of AI, demonstrating the capability to explore, analyze, and contribute new insights and advancements. D Determine the use of appropriate analysis software, IT tools or research equipment necessary to carry out relevant experimental, laboratory, or workshop activities. E Demonstrate deep expertise in communicating project work and findings through an oral presentation and devising a dissertation thesis. F Demonstrate critical awareness of the legal, social, ethical and professional framework in AI systems, software development or information engineering.
Students will choose an applied AI research direction with: • A nominated supervisor from XJTLU, or • A joint research supervision from a nominated supervisor from XJTLU nominated supervisor from XJTLU and an external industry supervisor from cooperative research institutes and enterprises at the end of semester 2. The students will be required to discuss the research outline with the supervisor(s) at the beginning of semester 3. Students and their supervisors can decide delivery pattern. Some academic supervisors have a group meeting and the other may have one-by one meeting with students. The time schedule is slightly different from one individual academic staff to another. Usually there is weekly meeting for all supervisors for his/her students.
