This module provides students with a detailed coverage of the nature and determinants of the pattern of world trade. Throughout the module emphasis is placed upon the role of theory in enhancing understanding of the patterns and nature of trade flows (of both goods and services) in the context of the globalising world economy.
A. Demonstrate understanding of why countries trade with one another.
B. Demonstrate understanding of the determinants of international trade.
C. Appreciate the role that supranational institutions have in the regulation of international trade.
D. Appreciate the consequences of trade for the environment, labour standards and world poverty.
E. Demonstrate a critical understanding of international relations arising from strategic trade interactions amongst nations.
This module will be delivered via a combination of lectures and tutorials.
Lectures will be designed to provide essential information and introduce students to the basic tools of analysis.
Tutorials will involve group presentation of a topic.
