Academic Year 2026/27
Semester SEM2

Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to develop an in-depth understanding of international education and the internationalization of education at the pre-tertiary level through project-based and practice-based learning approaches. It enables students to critically examine multiple perspectives and practices of K–12 internationalized education at the national, institutional, and individual levels within the Chinese educational context. The module also integrates AI-supported learning and teaching to enhance inquiry, curriculum analysis, reflective practice, and educational design. Through authentic projects and contextualized practice, students will develop theoretically grounded and context-responsive educational practices informed by critical analysis and interdisciplinary perspectives.

Learning outcomes

A. Identify, design, and develop educational practices that align with the principles of international education and the internationalization of education within specific institutional and cultural contexts, including the effective integration of project-based, practice-based, and AI-enhanced pedagogies. B. Critically reflect on the impact of the internationalization of education on institutional policies, curriculum practices, teaching approaches, and personal professional development across diverse educational settings. C. Critically analyze key concepts, theories, and contemporary issues related to international education and the internationalization of education, with consideration of curriculum innovation, global perspectives, and emerging educational technologies.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered through lectures, tutorials, seminars, and fieldwork/placement-based learning. Lectures will provide essential theoretical foundations in curriculum design, development, and evaluation, while two guest speaker seminars will introduce contemporary practices, policy perspectives, and AI integration in education. Tutorials will emphasize discussion, critical reflection, collaborative inquiry, and project-based learning, enabling students to apply theoretical concepts to authentic curriculum issues. A significant proportion of the module will focus on fieldwork and placement experiences to support practice-based learning, allowing students to engage with real educational contexts and strengthen the connection between theory and practice. Teaching and learning activities will be conducted in a blended learning format, including face-to-face sessions, asynchronous online learning, and supervised field-based experiences.
