This module is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and techniques used in conducting research within the field of psychology and education. Students will gain practical experience in formulating research questions, selecting appropriate research designs, collecting data, and analyzing results. Ethical considerations in research will also be explored.
A Identify and explain the key components of the scientific method and its application in psychological and educational research
B Differentiate between various research designs, and select and apply appropriate data collection methods, such as surveys, interviews, and experiments, to address specific research objectives.
C Interpret and present basic data analysis methods for quantitative and qualitative research, such as measures of central tendency and variability, basic inferential statistical tests, thematic analysis and grounded theory.
D Conduct ethical research by adhering to institutional and professional ethical guidelines in all stages of the research process.
The teaching sessions include lectures, lab/practicals, and tutorials, which work together to engage students with key conceptual and methodological insights, as well as dedicated opportunities for critical reflection. Students will also engage in collaborative and individual practice in addressing practical issues regarding research design and applications of research methods in schools and other educational settings.
