Smart Grid Technologies

Module Title Smart Grid Technologies
Module Level Level 3
Module Credits 5.00
Academic Year 2024/25
Semester SEM2

Aims and Fit of Module

This module is focused on power generation technologies and their applications in modern world. Specifically, students will be introduced about the important concept of sustainable electric power supply, and the working principles related to classical power generation, such as thermodynamic theory, thermal/hydro power plants, as well as modern power generation (and storage) technologies such as renewable energy systems, grid energy storages, electric vehicles, and smart grids.

Learning outcomes

A. To describe the role of different power generation technologies in the modern world B. To interpret the principles of energy analysis applied in thermal and hydro power plants C. To analyze typical thermal power plant systems including gas power plants and vapor power plants D. To design and evaluate modern power generation/storage management methods for future power grids

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures, tutorials, research seminar.
