Aims and Fit of Module

This module is designed to introduce Entrepreneurship and Innovation (E&I) students to the main research methods applied to E&I. The module aims to develop students’ research skills so as to endow them with competencies to identify needs and gaps for market research, formulate broad problem statements, pose research questions, design and conduct investigations using a feasible and consistent research method, and come up with solutions and insights. These will be achieved by developing students’ skills on identifying problems and research questions and to choose a compatible and feasible research methodology. It introduces the basics of quantitative research, encouraging students to develop both their intuitive and analytical skills for their proposed future research projects. It focuses on developing skills and knowledge in research design, data collection, data management & modelling through the analysis of business related data. Training in a range of data analysis software is a key component of this module and AI-tools or add-ons shall be used for enhancing teaching content and shall be encouraged for students’ use in enhancing and expediting their learning process.

Learning outcomes

A Demonstrate understanding of the principles of quantitative and qualitative data and statistical analysis in business research. B Demonstrate a critical understanding of the importance of evidence-based research. C Apply a range of methods using lab software and technologies to analyze quantitative and qualitative data. D Critically analyze and evaluate research results and reports. E Present research data in a systematic manner and structure a presentation and research project.

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are interactive and divided into two components: lectures and workshops/practicals. The workshops/practicals will build on the materials covered in the lectures based on the training in the practical issues regarding identifying problems or areas of research, narrowing down the problem statement to constructs and variables, choosing suitable data collection techniques and subsequently analyzing the data to develop solutions, prepare reports and presentations or make decisions.
