The course aims to introduce students to the modern theory of finance. It examines decision rules for financial decisions in firms and the capital market context in which these decisions are made. The topics covered are the value and capital budgeting, portfolio theory, models of security valuation, efficient markets, long-term financing, company dividend decisions, capital structure, and interactions of investment and financing decisions.
Student completing the module successfully should:
A. understand the main themes of modern financial management;
B. be able to apply the tools and techniques of financial management;
C. be able to interpret and critically examine financial management issues and controversies.
The module will be taught using a combination of lectures and workshops. Learning will also be reinforced by appropriate readings from the course text.
