This module is designed to let students understand the history and latest development trend of visual effects, and how to use visual effects to help their story telling. Students will learn how to use various VFX tools in all aspects of film production, and integrate them into the production process. This will help students better adapt to the reforms and challenges of traditional film production brought about by the continuous development of science and technology.
A Demonstrate their knowledge of research and production techniques in relation to the creation of visual effects B Deploy basic production and post-production skills in order to create visual effects C Operate individually and as part of a team in the production of visual effects
The teaching sessions are divided into two components (lectures and practical workshops). The lectures will introduce students to visual effects – how they are produced, different shooting techniques in their production as well as develop their basic understanding of the importance of visual effects and also, develop their critical understanding of what particular visual effects technique might be suitable in the context of certain narrative. The practical workshops will develop production skills such as research, planning, organisation, production management, camera, lighting, sound, post-production and crucially narrative techniques. Students will work independently or in small crews to develop their ideas and produce their own visual effects.
