This course is a further elaboration of the principles and techniques of editing students will have encountered at Level 1 in their Introduction to Post-production module, building a broader technical background for professional development in TV and broadcasting industry. By completing a series of assignments, students will finish this module with increased confidence in, and understanding of, software and editing aesthetics, technique and style in both single-cam and multi-cam setting. Specifically, the module is designed to: - Give student editors a greater understanding of the theories and principles of editing in TV and broadcasting - Enable student editors to build editing skills for multi-camera footage, develop editing styles that are appropriate to various types of content including documentary, reality show and TV series, and develop creative solutions to editing challenges - Help student editors increase their skill levels and work professionally in order to achieve their creative vision - Enable student editors to work with directors and TV producers - Gain an understanding of editor contracts, fees, negotiations etc in TV and broadcasting, so that they can conduct themselves at a professional level
A Discuss, analyse and critique television, understanding the practice of both single-camera and multi-camera editing B Successfully collaborate and communicate with the director in order to realise a creative vision in the offline process C Effectively translate a script into edit decisions by using a number of editing techniques in the creation of meaning D Use visual language to communicate content and meaning to audiences
The teaching sessions are divided into two components, seminars and practical workshops in the lab.
