Aims and Fit of Module

This module will enable students to explore the possibilities of sound-in-itself, reaching beyond the fields of music and film. Through experimental engagement, students are required to develop their practice considering both the technological constraints and the critical requirements of contemporary sonic arts practice. Students will be introduced to advanced programming and electronics for the purposes of developing sophisticated practical projects within a digital media arts context.

A Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse sonic arts practices through drawing on critical and theoretical texts and practical examples B Place practical work in an appropriate critical context C Demonstrate a sound understanding of the technical challenges and implications of developing practical work within a sonic arts context D Select appropriate technology to communicate relevant conceptual practice E Plan, develop, and produce an innovative sonic arts practical project

Method of teaching and learning

Lectures, practical hands-on workshops, and tutorials
