This module aims to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and practice related concepts in project leadership and governance and develop relevant skills for the successful delivery of projects. Students will learn the key differences in characteristics and governance of projects, programs and portfolios. They will develop understanding of how integrated project governance is implemented and how leadership contributes to effective governance of projects. The students will learn fundamental concepts in project leadership with a particular focus on developing leadership skills for managing projects of today and in the future. In addition, the module will also prepare students in the leadership of virtual projects and the competencies needed for leading such projects.
A. Systematically evaluate the commonly held views of project success and failure
B. Evaluate how project governance, portfolio management, program management and change management could increase project success rates
C. Identify the most promising tools and methodologies and selectively apply them to support top management decision-making to overcome project failure
D. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the academic literature pointing to a need for better approaches than current project management practice
E. Interpret, critically evaluate and explain the fundamental concepts and theoretical frameworks of project governance
