Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this module is to focus on the root causes of the identified problem and develop both short-term and long-term solutions. Students will apply their problem-solving skills to analyse data, perform root cause analysis, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to design actionable solutions.

Learning outcomes

A. Use problem-solving methodologies (such as DMAIC) to investigate the underlying causes of the problem. B. Analyse relevant data to identify patterns and contributing factors. C. Propose and test short-term solutions that can address the immediate impact of the problem. D. Create long-term solutions that address the root causes of the problem and aim for sustainable improvements. E. Consider the impact of proposed solutions on the company’s long-term goals and vision. F. Work with cross-functional teams, including industry professionals, to brainstorm, assess, and refine potential solutions. G. Deploy the solution, monitor the effectiveness, and make continuous improvements.

Method of teaching and learning

• Data Analysis and Research: Students will gather and analyse data to identify root causes, utilising tools such as statistical analysis or process mapping. • Solution Brainstorming and Workshops: Collaborative workshops with industry professionals to develop potential short-term and long-term solutions. • Feedback and Refinement: Continuous feedback loops with stakeholders to refine solutions based on practical considerations and company needs. • Prototyping and Testing: Where applicable, students may be involved in testing short-term solutions or developing prototypes to demonstrate proposed solutions.
