This module aims to introduce the development trend of the global manufacturing industry and intelligent manufacturing strategies proposed by countries and provides students with the basic concepts and knowledge in smart manufacturing. It enables students to master smart factory blueprint planning methods and practical skills through classroom learning, case analysis, practical training and benchmarking. It will develop students’ ability to solve engineering problems using Arduino and presentation and oral communication skills.

C Demonstrate understanding in creative design and construction, and ability to evaluate results and synthesize knowledge.
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which tracks more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contributions from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with the reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments. This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures, seminars and tutorials/case studies. This module under block teaching mode will be delivered in 6 weeks pattern, The Seminar will take place in Week 1; Lectures at Week 2-3; Tutorial and Lab/practical sections will come up after the lectures between week 3-5; week 6 is put aside for students to work on their project-assessment, with time to meet lecturers in office hours. Assessment hand-in times will be after week 6.
