The module aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts in robotics, such as Direct and Inverse Kinematics, Workspace, Trajectory Planning and Control, Human-robot interaction
And Robot Configuration.
In addition, it provides the basic knowledge and skills to design and build industrial robotic systems, and to understand the advantages and disadvantages of their deployment.
A. demonstrate understanding of fundamental concepts in robot design and application.
Intellectual Abilities
B. derive the homogenous transformation matrices for multi-degrees of freedom robotic systems.
C. model kinematic chains of robotic manipulators.
D. analyse kinematic chains to solve inverse kinematics.
E. implement control algorithms on robotic joints and relate theoretical analysis to physical observations of robotic systems.
F. apply hands-on skills on the control of industrial robotic systems.
G. acquire independent learning, problem solving and design skills
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures, seminars, tutorials and supervised laboratory sessions.
