Additive Manufacturing for Micro Devices

Module Title Additive Manufacturing for Micro Devices
Module Level Level 4
Module Credits 5.00
Academic Year 2024/25
Semester SEM2

Aims and Fit of Module

To provide students with the ability to: • Develop an understanding of additive manufacturing. • Design and fabricate 3D objects using CAD and 3D printing technologies. • Develop a comprehensive understanding of recent advances in the AM of micro/nano functional devices, micro/nano AM techniques, as well as fabricated micro/nano functional devices.

Learning outcomes

A Gain the knowledge of fundamental additive manufacturing and 3D printing approaches, including extrusion-based deposition, stereolithography, powder bed-based melting, and inkjet-based deposition. B Develop additive manufacturing skillset for CAD and CAM methodologies to produce successful 3D prints. C Gain the ability to fabricate 3D objects using a variety of 3D printing technologies. D Demonstrate understanding of the latest micro/nano additive manufacturing processes, functional materials, and applications of micro/nano functional devices. E Develop the ability to design and conduct experiments, analyse and interpret data, as well as present the results.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures, tutorials, and both supervised and unsupervised laboratory sessions.
