This module is suitable mainly for part time students who currently are attached with their ongoing company. The aim of the module is similar to that of internship, but instead, the student will apply all the knowledge and skills learnt in this programme to solve their ongoing project or product or issues. The project can be selected by the students, and can be of the form of: improvement projects on product, issue solving, management of manufacturing process, and etc. The module will have six months. The work will be performed on campus. Students are not supervised on a day-to-day basis, but the school will provide broad supervision and an assessment regime. The student will have an industrial supervisor as well as an academic supervisor from university. Material and information will be provided to aid the student in completing the project.
A Independently identify a problem or improvement opportunity in an engineering or manufacturing ecosystem, and develop a plan to address it; B Locate and conduct a review of project-related literature; C Apply theoretical knowledge and creative problem solving to practical, workplace related problem; D Implement meticulous project management capabilities of an engineering project; E Effectively communicate technical ideas and solutions; F Demonstrate a high level of skills appropriate to working in a collaborative, team based environment.
In the project we wish to foster independent learning, under the guidance of both industrial supervisor and academic supervisor from the university. There is a review, which provides an opportunity for monitoring progress and giving formative feedback. Supervisors from both university and companies maintain regular contact with students throughout the project to provide direction and advice as needed.
