Aims and Fit of Module

This module provides students with the opportunity to undertake a substantial, independent project that synthesizes and applies knowledge, skills, and methodologies acquired throughout their programme. Students will engage in practical problem-solving, critical analysis, and design or investigative work, either individually or as part of a multidisciplinary team. The module is designed to: 1)Foster independent and self-directed learning through sustained project work; 2)Develop advanced skills in research, design, analysis, implementation, and evaluation; 3)Strengthen project and time management capabilities in a realistic context; 4)Enhance professional competencies, including teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making; 5)Improve communication skills through the production of a comprehensive project report and oral presentation. Whether completed individually or within a multidisciplinary group, the module ensures each student meets defined learning outcomes and is assessed according to consistent academic standards.

Learning outcomes

A. Specify a substantial problem, and produce a plan to address the problem;
B. Produce and follow an appropriate project plan to fit within the available time and assessment structure;
C. Locate and perform a review of project related literature;
D. Design, implement and test a solution to a substantial problem;
E. Evaluate in a critical fashion the work they have done, and to place it in the context of related work;
F. Prepare and deliver a formal presentation;
G. Structure and write a dissertation describing their projects.

Method of teaching and learning

The student has the option of either individual or multidisciplinary group FYP: 1)Individual Project Students and their supervisors can decide on delivery patterns. Some academic supervisors have a group meeting, and the other may have one-by-one meeting with students. The time schedule is slightly different from one individual academic staff to another. Usually, there is a weekly meeting for all supervisors for his/her students. 2)Multidisciplinary Group FYP Each student and his/her respective supervisor can decide on delivery patterns. Some academic supervisors have a group meeting, and the other may have a one-by-one meeting with students. Usually, there is a weekly meeting for all supervisors for his/her students. For the Group FYP project, regular meetings between all students and all supervisors in Group FYP projects will be arranged if necessary.
