Artificial Intelligence for Energy Sciences

Module Title Artificial Intelligence for Energy Sciences
Module Level Level 4
Module Credits 5.00
Academic Year 2024/25
Semester SEM2

Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills required for researching artificial intelligence within the realm of energy science. Leveraging the support technology of artificial intelligence provided by our industry partners, this module offers students an opportunity to gain comprehensive understanding and training for conducting research. Furthermore, it includes practical components focused on the creation of intelligent design strategies, incorporating both technical and economic decision-making aspects within energy science.

Learning outcomes

A Critically evaluate the current theoretical and practical issues related to energy science.
B Analyse mechanisms for using artificial intelligence methods to address issues related to energy science.
C Apply AI methods to solve theoretical and practical issues related to energy science.
D Evaluate AI algorithms and models for industrially relevant problems related to energy science.

Method of teaching and learning

Students are expected to attend two hours of formal (theoretical) lectures and engage in two hours of supervised (practical) training weekly. The lectures and supervised training sessions will introduce students to the content and practical skills relevant to the subject of the module.
Additionally, students are required to allocate time to participate in workshops, where they will collaborate on their projects.
Studies in conjunction with industrial partners will also provide time for reflection and consideration of lecture material and background reading.
