The Business Ecosystem

Module Title The Business Ecosystem
Module Level Level 0
Module Credits 2.5
Academic Year 2026/27
Semester SEM1

Aims and Fit of Module

This module offers first-year students an integrated introduction to business, shifting their perspective from outsider/consumer to systems thinker. It presents the business ecosystem—a dynamic network of companies, customers, suppliers, banks, regulators, competitors, and the environment—that collectively creates, moves, and captures value. The module serves as a foundation for all later specialist subjects (accounting, finance, marketing, etc.) by training students to understand connections before details.

Learning outcomes

A Understand key components and dynamics of a business ecosystem. B Understand the integrated roles of core business functions. C Evaluate how internal and external factors impact business networks. D Develop a holistic business perspective as a foundation for specialized study.

Method of teaching and learning

This module is delivered through a weekly structure combining a 2-hour lecture with a 1-hour LIFE Studio session (shared with other AH modules). Each lecture introduces key concepts and theoretical frameworks, contextualized through relevant field examples, case studies, and real-world issues. The LIFE Studio offers a tailored one-hour interactive session that transforms theoretical content into inquiry-based learning and project-based evidence.
