The module is intended for students who have completed Spanish Language 1, or who have an equivalent level of prior knowledge of Spanish. The module integrates topic-based language learning with the study of grammar, with an emphasis on consolidating grammatical knowledge and the communicative use of simple Spanish.
A Demonstrate comprehension of basic spoken Spanish about some familiar topics B Show comprehension of basic texts in Spanish about some familiar topics across a range of different formats. C Demonstrate spoken communication skills by providing and/or exchanging personal information about some familiar topics at a basic level. D Produce simple texts in Spanish about some familiar topics E Identify some basic aspects of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
Core teaching takes place through Spanish language and study skills workshops with an emphasis on student-to-student interaction and all student participation. In addition, there will be guided reading and directed study to enable students to prepare for and reinforce class input and develop autonomous learning strategies. Online resources will also be used to complement contact sessions and workshops whereby additional information and resources can be made available electronically and on-line discussions between students and tutors can be held.
