Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to make students conversant with the West European, UK and US contemporary planning systems and their historical developments.

Learning outcomes

A. Describe the key elements of contemporary planning systems in West Europe, UK, and the US. B. Explain the chronological growth and development of Western planning, with a focus on town planning in the UK; C. Discuss issues, challenges, operations and policy options of contemporary Western Planning. D. Demonstrate a critical approach to Western planning practices and the capability to compare cases from different socio-institutional and economic contexts

Method of teaching and learning

The module seeks to provide a varied learning experience, combining lectures, tutorials and discussion. Their delivery is designed to provide experiences of current issues and practices, and stimulate a comparative approach through lectures, discussions and presentation.
