The aim of this module is to provide students with the theoretical foundation and skills required to predict, invent and plan for urban futures.
A. explain demographic dynamics and produce population forecasts
B. show how key demographic and social data can be used to understand places, and in the production of future forecasts
C. assess the likely impact on future development of strategic plans and ‘vision’ documents
D. understand future plans in terms of their wider impact on human development
The module is taught through lectures and tutorials. Some tutorials are in computer labs to support understanding and manipulation of data.
*Should the University decide to cancel or postpone the field trip due to unforeseen environmental and/or political circumstances, the Department will either plan an appropriate substitute activity to meet the intended learning outcomes of the trip or make necessary arrangements to organise the trip at a later time, as appropriate.
