Building on the Semester One module, Essentials of AI, this mandatory Semester 2, Stage 1 module aims to enhance students’ comprehension and knowledge about AI and its diverse applications. It is designed to develop practical skills in the implementation of AI-driven solutions, as well as fostering independent and critical thinking by exploring the ethical and societal impacts of AI, especially in an academic setting. Lastly, this module aims to promote creativity and innovation through the application of AI tools that solve real-world problems.
A Demonstrate an enhanced comprehension and knowledge of AI and its diverse applications, building on the foundational concepts from the Semester One module, Essentials of AI. B Develop practical skills in the implementation of AI-driven solutions, including the ability to design, develop, and deploy AI applications. C Foster independent and critical thinking by analyzing and evaluating the ethical and societal impacts of AI, particularly in academic settings, and propose potential solutions or mitigations for relevant issues. D Apply creativity and innovation in utilizing AI tools to address real-world problems, showcasing the ability to develop novel solutions through AI-driven approaches.
This module is delivered entirely online by colleagues from various Schools and Academies, with 1 hour of synchronous delivery and 1 hour of asynchronous delivery per week in the first half of Semester 2. Lectures will introduce students to the academic content and practical skills which are the subject of the module. In addition to classes, students will be expected to devote the unsupervised time to private study. Private study will provide time for reflection and consideration of lecture material and to undertake background reading.
